The Truth About Green Tea The countless health benefits of green tea has been well documented for many years, and green gives you more energy and helps you lose weight but also to lowers your bad cholesterol levels and help you fight heart and cardiovascular diseases, and even cancer. One of the ingredients in green tea weight is a compound known as Epigallocatechin gallate, also referred to as EGCG. This has been shown to have anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-viral properties and is over 200 times more potent than vitamin E in fighting free radicals and pro-oxidants. Studies have also shown that the EGCG in green tea can affect body fat accumulation and cholesterol levels positively. The results indicate that green tea can speed up your metabolism and helps burn calories as well as lowering your bad cholesterol levels, and has an effect on your level of body fat. An earlier study supported this by concluding, “green tea has thermogenic properties and promotes fat oxidation beyond that explained by its caffeine content per se”. A key benefit of green tea is that they help thermo genesis, which is the burning of calories, without causing jitters and other unwanted side effects. Supplements that contain Ephedrine, on the other hand, are also as effective, if not more effective at speeding up the metabolism, but can have very dangerous side effects. Ephedrine has been linked to strokes, heart attacks and even death in some users. While green tea does contain caffeine, it doesn’t have the same effect. Theanine, which is the main amino acid in green tea, seems to minimize the effects of caffeine, which is why the caffeine in green tea doesn’t seem to cause jitters and an increased heart rate the way that caffeine in other beverages can. Although some claim that the effect of green tea on reducing body fat is minimal, a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that green tea doubled the fat loss in subjects and concluded that green tea is an effective method for shedding fat, particularly in the mid-section. Recent studies have also shown strong evidence for the role of green tea in lowering body fat.

The Cabbage Soup Diet If you have a special occasion coming up, or you simply need to lose weight fast, the Cabbage Soup Diet may be just what you're looking for. Although not suitable for long-term weight loss, the Cabbage Soup Diet is a low-fat, high-fiber diet that will help you get into shape fast before you embark on a more moderate long-term eating plan. Pros and Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet Pros: You'll lose weight fast, and can get as much of the foods listed as you want. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn't be adhered to for longer), it provides a great "kick-start" for a more moderate diet. Cons: Some people find the soup bland. Some people have reported feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration (although some who have been affected in this way felt it was well worth it, since it was only for a week and they had lost considerable weight). What the Cabbage Soup Diet is NOT The cabbage soup diet is sometimes referred to as the "Mayo Clinic Diet", and the "Sacred Heart Hospital Diet". Interestingly, this diet has nothing to do with either the Mayo Clinic, or any Sacred Heart Hospital we know about. The Problem With Most "Mainstream" Diets Most diets - especially "mainstream" diets, and those recommended by major medical institutions - work slowly but surely, resulting in around 1 pound of weight loss per week. This "slow and steady" way to lose weight is certainly healthy, but suffers from one significant drawback: most people get discouraged and quit whatever diet they are on if they don't see results quickly. Seven Keys to Success 1. Follow the diet religiously.2. Drink at least 4 glasses of water per day3. Keep in mind that it's only seven days4. Complement the diet with a good multivitamin tablet5. Print the information on this site so you can refer to it daily6. Eat plenty of soup - as much as you want! Do not try to starve yourself or you'll probably cheat and break the diet7. Try different spices to liven up the soup and add varietyCabbage Soup Recipe· 6 large green onions· 2 green peppers · 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole) · 3 Carrots· 1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms · 1 bunch of celery · half a head of cabbage · 1 package Lipton soup mix · 1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional) · 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional) · Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc. Directions: Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot. Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot. Slice mushrooms into thick slices, add to pot.If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavours you will need. Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remember: This diet should only be followed for 7 days at a time, with at least two weeks in between. Day One: Fruit: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas). Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day. For drinks- unsweetened teas, cranberry juice and water. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. Do not eat fruit today. Day Three: Mix Days One and Two: Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No Baked Potato. Day Four: Bananas and Skim Milk: Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you would like on this day, along with your soup.
